Registered Massage Therapy

Massage

Therapeutic massage uses various techniques for both therapeutic and relaxation purposes by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems, thereby giving a sense of well-being.

After muscle and tendon injuries, fractures, operations, injured muscles become tense, knotted and immobile. These techniques employed can assist in speeding up the healing process and prevent complications such as scar tissue formation, decreased joint mobility and assist the patient to return to their normal life.

Remedial or Therapeutic massage treats not only the injured area but the whole body and addresses the root cause of pain. Therapeutic massage can lower cortisol levels and increase serotonin and dopamine levels. These hormonal changes control pain, improve mood, enhance sleep, decrease stress and anxiety, and promote relaxation.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage techniques are suitable for deeper tissues and body structures such as muscles and fascia. A deep tissue massage is used to reduce soreness associated with over-activity, trauma or strenuous workouts to promote tissue healing and prevent scar tissue formation as well as releasing muscle tension and trigger points.

Our massage therapists use deep tissue massages to:

  • Release muscle tension in deeper structures
  • Release chemicals such as lactic acid from muscles
  • Increase blood supply and oxygen to tissues
  • Break down scar tissue
  • Prevent scar tissue formation

Although the movements and techniques of deep tissue massage resemble those of a lighter approach such as Swedish massage, it is done by applying more pressure. For that reason, there might be some discomfort associated with a deep tissue massage. Many people refer to this discomfort as “good pain”. It is not uncommon to feel mild pain a few days following a deep tissue massage similar to mild soreness after starting an exercise regimen.

Sports Massage

Sports massage therapy is the application of various massage techniques to help athletes prevent injuries, prepare for the physical demand for training or competition, perform better and/ or recover from injuries. It can be applied before, during and after a sporting event to assist the athlete for peak performance or prevent fatigue and assist in recovering after the event. It is also used to decrease swelling, reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility and ultimately to prevent injuries.

Myofascial Release
Active Release Therapy

Adhesion and scar tissue treatment and Myofascial release are soft tissue system/movement-based massage techniques used to treat strained and over-used muscles. They are effective in the quick and permanent resolution of problems such as headache, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, sciatica and plantar fasciitis, to name a few. Every session combines both examination and treatment. The therapist evaluates the condition of the affected area, and then treats abnormal tissues by using directed tension in combination with specific patient movements.

Prenatal & Postpartum Massage

A pregnancy massage is for an expectant mother and aims to address the specific needs of an expecting mother (Prenatal) or a mother who has recently given birth (Postpartum).

Expecting or new mothers commonly suffer from back pain, swelling of legs, leg cramps, and foot pain. Like a regular massage, pregnancy or postnatal massage is to relax tense muscles, decrease pain, improve blood flow, decrease edema and swelling of legs, and improve flexibility and joint mobility.

Pregnancy massage is specifically tailored to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies. Our massage therapists are trained in prenatal and postnatal massage and have a good understanding of how to safely position an expecting mother and use appropriate massage techniques. At KinaHEALTH, we are also equipped with a prenatal massage table where you will be able to comfortably lie face down if you so choose.
